Re-regulate the airlines? Heck, yes

Airlines must also look back on the pre-deregulation days with fondness. In the three decades before deregulation, the commercial aviation industry had only three unprofitable years. Since then, it’s had 14 losing years. Now that the government is busy regulating broad swaths of the American economy, isn’t it time to consider re-regulating the airline industry?

Strategies for booking hotels on a budget

The Bahamas' Atlantis mega-resort is offering a three-night package starting at $299 a person, including two sessions interacting with dolphins (normally $110 each), and $99 airfare each way on JetBlue from New York, $89 from Boston (book by Dec. 18, offer ends Dec. 25).When the economy was booming, many hotel companies began building new properties. Some of those are opening now, resulting in a 2.5 percent increase in hotel room supply this year, just as demand is dropping by around 1 percent or more, according to Jan Freitag of Smith Travel Research.
